Selling Your Home? Don’t Forget Kerb Appeal

Posted on  in Ray White News by Darren McCoy.

Have you ever judged a book by its cover? Chances are you have, simply because the outside didn’t look very appealing to you.

Everybody knows how important first impressions are, but many people don’t often apply this rule to their homes.

The way that your house first looks to a buyer is crucial, as you’ll want your home to really hook buyers in at first sight and draw them into viewing your house for sale.

This can be done through kerb appeal – the view that people will receive when passing your property for sale on the street.

Failure to do this may lead to many buyers missing out on viewing your home, just because its kerb appeal wasn’t up to scratch.

Having a great deal of kerb appeal on your property is particularly useful in a hot market, as buyers might not give many homes the time of day to even conduct a proper viewing. They may simply drive past the property to check it out, leaving your home’s first impression as its only impression!

If you’re thinking of listing homes for sale on the market this spring selling season, here are some tips to help boost your property’s kerb appeal.

Lawns and gardens

Get rid of those unsightly brown patches of grass and ensure your lawns are neatly manicured to frame your home. Adding a small statue or planter box can also go a long way into boosting your home’s street appeal just by adding a focal point.

House exterior

When was the last time you washed your house? Cleaning the exterior of your home is almost as important as the interior! Get out those buckets, brushes and clothes and remove all of those spiderwebs, built up pollen, dirt, sand, dust and grit to get your home looking spic and span.

For a more professional job, hire a house cleaning service to do this for you. They can even get up onto the roof and gutters where you may find it difficult.

Lighting

To ensure your home looks great throughout the day and well into the night, you may want to invest in some lighting to really show how great the home looks after dark.

Whether it’s a few small poles dotted up the driveway and throughout the garden, or perhaps some hanging lights off the facade, these can all go a long way to making your home look great.
